Homeowners strive to make that perfect first impression for visiting family members and guests, which means they often put a lot of thought into painting the front door and its surrounding trim. The appropriately-named “Aura Grand Entrance” is the perfect paint and finisher for the job. Learn more about the Aura line of paints and the best ways to paint a front door and trim.
Inspired by European enamel finishes, Aura Grand Entrance paint is tailored specifically for doors and trims. It’s the perfect choice for various reasons:
It’s also available in thousands of colors, making it bound to fit into anybody’s design aesthetic.
Painting the trim helps complement and emphasize the color of the door, providing either a strong or subtle contrast that makes your front entrance pop. Painting your door and trim isn’t difficult, and with an easy application by brush, you can have a front door with a beautiful finish. The following steps will get you started on the right foot.
You don’t want dripping paint to get on your other surfaces, so start by moving any furniture, mats, or shoes away from your front entrance. Use a roll of painter’s tape to mark off the trim, and cover the floor with painting mats if necessary.
You want a clean surface to start painting too, so use a damp sponge to clean off a layer of dirt and dust.
It’s common to use sandpaper for this step, followed by a quick wipe-down to roughen the texture of the door and allow the primer to adhere better.
Use an angled brush to apply primer to the trim and door. Let it dry for 24 hours and re-apply another coat if necessary. Lightly sand the coat with sandpaper to remove any remaining brush strokes.
Using a brush (optionally in combination with a small roller to speed up the process), paint over your door section-by-section. Many doors have panels that you’ll have to paint around, so use whichever tool works best for the job. Let the paint dry and lightly sand it before wiping down and applying a second coat.
